Episode 1: Placed with a Purpose

Welcome to Perfectly Placed

Welcome to Perfectly Placed, a podcast dedicated to sharing the unvarnished, yet beautiful, stories of adoption. As the host, I'm Kate Migas—a wife, teacher, mom, and an advocate for adoption. Based in South Louisiana, I founded the Placed Adoption Education Foundation with the goal of bringing honest, compassionate adoption education to our schools and communities.

Why We’re Here

On Perfectly Placed, we focus on the real voices of birth parents, adoptees, and adoptive families, offering you stories that might not make the headlines but certainly shape our lives. Each episode dives deep into conversations that are thoughtful, sometimes hard, but always honest, painting a complete picture of adoption far from a mere highlight reel. These are the narratives that deserve more attention, more understanding, and more compassion. It is in the authenticity of these stories that we discover the beauty of being perfectly placed.

My Personal Journey

In this first episode, I introduce my own journey with adoption. My husband and I adopted two incredible children, Eliza in 2019, and Sam in 2021. Our experiences have been uniquely rewarding, leading to questions that highlighted just how many misconceptions surround adoption.

I started teaching back in 2008, with a love for education that extended into founding the Placed Adoption Education Foundation in 2023. This was a leap of faith but an incredibly fulfilling one, aimed at educating high school students about the realities of adoption.

We created a curriculum that allows us to engage with students by providing them insights into adoption proceedings and what it truly means to be part of an adoptive or foster family. Our ultimate goal is to foster understanding and better preparation for those connected to adoption, whether directly or indirectly.

Expanding Understanding

Our efforts have extended to teaming up with other organizations like Option Hope in Louisiana, expanding education into public and private schools. We’ve even reached elementary school classrooms, helping young children understand adoption's role in building families and promoting kindness and inclusivity from an early age.

From Education to Podcast

Transitioning from classroom education into podcasting was a natural step to reach adults who might not be in a traditional educational setting anymore. Perfectly Placed aims to shed light on the everyday realities of adoption, offering a perspective that’s neither overly tragic nor excessively idealized, just honest and real.

Stories and Truths

Every week, you'll hear from a diverse array of voices across the adoption triad (adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents) engaging in candid conversations. We discuss themes of identity, loss, love, belonging, and much more. This isn’t a space for perfect narratives but a platform for truth told with compassion and respect.

I firmly believe that marrying authenticity with the spirit of hope can foster real healing and understanding, which is so needed in the adoption space.
